Fire Hydrants

The Winnetka Fire Department recommends at least 1,000 gallons per minute for sufficient fire hydrant pressure to maximize fire-fighting capabilities. Due to the older system design and constricted size of water mains from pipe corrosion, a large number of fire hydrants are unable to push out enough water when they are needed. The Winnetka Fire Department, which provides fire services for Kenilworth, has tested each of our fire hydrants and determined the following:

Engineers have recommended several water system improvements that have been included into the Kenilworth ten year capital improvement program. These recommendations are designed to improve Kenilworth fire hydrants to boost fire-fighting capacity and provide additional system redundancies.
